Crete makes a comeback

After three years without charter flights to Crete, the popular destination is making a comeback until the summer of 2023. The charter organizer TUI is once again setting up a series with a total of 15 departures. The premiere flight departs on Thursday, June 15, and the series ends with the last departure on September 21.
As in previous seasons, TUI is hiring the Greek airline Aegean Airlines, which will fly the route with one of its Airbus 320s, which has room for 174 passengers.
-We welcome TUI's investment in Jönköping next summer. Crete is an old favorite that has attracted many to travel from Jönköping over the years. Now we hope even more people will take the opportunity to discover how easy it is to travel from their nearest airport. Easy to get here and no long queues are just some of the advantages, says Henrik Älverdal, commercial manager Jönköping Airport.
Crete – a cozy favorite with a lot to discover
Flights go to Chania, which is Crete's second largest city. A destination that is just as good for sun and swimming as it is for shopping and the occasional excursion on the island. The heart of Chania city is the old, beautiful Venetian harbor. Here is the largest part of the city's entertainment - both quieter bars and more fast-paced nightclubs and discotheques. But it is mainly the well-preserved old quarter with its narrow alleys and charming squares that attracts tourists to Chania city.
The climate in Crete is outstanding, with lush greenery in spring and warm seas well into late autumn. In Crete, the mix between lovely holiday island and historical surroundings never ceases to fascinate. The cool wind from the north refreshes even the hottest summer days and the beaches do not disappoint.
Larger selection gives increased opportunities
There are now a total of 37 charter departures next summer to choose from from Jönköping. Distributed among the three destinations Mallorca (15), Split (7) and Crete (15). A wide range can have positive effects for Jönköping Airport's long-term development.
-There is an expression that says "flight begets flight". This means that the wider range you have, the greater the chance that you will have more departures and succeed in attracting more airlines and charter organizers to invest. Therefore, it is important to also fill the flights you have. In the end, you want the customer to feel that there are so many options that you first choose the place of departure and then the destination, concludes Henrik Älverdal.
