Season premiere for the charter flights from Germany

During Thursday, July 4, the first charter flight from German Frankfurt arrived at Jönköping Airport. On board the Discover Airlines Airbus 320 were nearly 130 expectant travelers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria in particular. They were met by the local media, while they were greeted by representatives from the airport and Småland Tourism.

For over fifteen years, Jönköping Airport has received chartered flights during the summer season, something that is still completely unique.

-This is really something we should be proud of. No other airport in Sweden has this type of charter traffic in the summer. It gives us extra weight when we hold talks with mainly foreign airlines, says Henrik Älverdal, Commercial Manager Jönköping Airport.

The travelers were traditionally welcomed with pomp and circumstance in the arrivals hall when they had picked up their bags from the baggage belt. Coffee and cinnamon buns were offered to the tunes of Swedish folk music by the local folk music ensemble Högt i tak.

This year, an increase in travelers of over 50% is expected, close to 800 compared to the scant 500 who traveled by air to Jönköping last year.

-This is proof that we are doing a good job and that we are growing as a visitor destination. By next year, we already have indications that we will exceed 1,000 travelers, Henrik continues.

All summer, every Thursday, until August 8, a chartered flight with the same number of passengers will arrive in Jönköping.
