Steadily up for charter traffic at Jönköping Airport during the first three months of the year.
Double weekly departures to Gran Canaria and a sports holiday departure to Lanzarote resulted in a 45 percent passenger increase for charter traffic at Jönköping Airport. Close to 300 travelers a week traveled on charter from Jönköping during the first quarter. In total, the number of travelers amounted to 7,703, which can be compared with 5,307 during the corresponding period in 2023.
The airport can happily state that it had a high level of occupancy on every departure, despite an almost doubled supply this winter.
- This clearly shows that the charter organizers' investment in Jönköping was right. If there is an attractive range of departures, many prioritize traveling from us. Now we look forward with excitement to the summer season, which offers six different destinations from Jönköping. We begin April 30 with a departure to Mallorca, which only has a few places left. Then it continues with 1-3 departures a week until the autumn holidays at the end of October, says Henrik Älverdal, Commercial Manager Jönköping Airport.
One of Jönköping Airport's other legs, freight traffic, remained at a stable level for the quarter. The amount of freight handled only decreased from 808 to 787 tons, which corresponds to 3 percent less than the corresponding period last year. It is mainly the regular shipping that has decreased in volume (-14%), while the mail volume increased (+1%) and the unplanned shipping volume more than doubled (+130%).
- Unfortunately, we can see that regular shipping continues to decrease, but at the same time we know that shipping operators are working to break the trend. We are also in concrete discussions about new freight lines with other operators, but it may take some time before anything is ready. Airfreight is complex and you have to be patient, concludes Henrik.
