2022 a positive year for Jönköping Airport

The number of passengers and cargo volume increased at Jönköping Airport during 2022. A total of 15,782 passengers traveled to and from Jönköping during 2022, which is an increase of 254% compared to the previous year's figures. The amount of cargo handled by the airport was a total of 3,443 tons, which corresponds to an increase of 24% compared to 2021.

The high percentage increase in passengers is explained by the fact that, after the pandemic, charter traffic only started in autumn 2021. In winter and autumn 2022, there were departures to Gran Canaria and in between, a summer series with departures to Mallorca. In addition, a total of six inbound charter flights from Germany, which was four more than in summer 2021.

  • Aware of what lies behind the numbers, we at the same time look positively at the recovery continuing. With an increased supply for 2023, we have every reason to be optimistic about this year, says Henrik Älverdal, commercial manager Jönköping Airport.

Next summer, in addition to Mallorca, Crete and Split are also included in the charter program. In addition, 8-10 arrivals with German charter travelers are planned.

Postal flights and increased number of cargo flights

Air freight saw its best year at Jönköping Airport since 2018. There are mainly two reasons behind the increase. Partly, that during the year PostNord again started flying mail between Jönköping and Stockholm, which has not been done since April 2018.

Another factor is the large increase in the number of ad hoc cargo flights, i.e. unplanned regular air cargo. This volume amounted to 368 tons, compared to 40 tons for 2021. An increase of a whopping 820%.

  • This is of course very gratifying! A result of having an open, flexible airport that can make quick decisions and efficiently handle inquiries from airlines and flight brokers. Another reason is that during the year we also had the opportunity to receive goods from third countries, which led to us seeing large volumes of incoming goods from, among others, Birmingham and Liverpool, concludes Henrik Älverdal.

That air traffic in Jönköping is on the rise is also evidenced by the total number of air movements. The number of flights that took off and landed at Jönköping Airport increased by 34% in 2022, from 3,221 to 4,331.
