Jönköping Airport has a unique accessibility through its central location in the middle of southern Sweden. Jönköping Airport AB, owned by the municipality of Jönköping (50%) and the Region of Jönköping (50%), operates and develops the airport in Jönköping.
The business consists of three business areas. Regular traffic, charter traffic and freight flights.
The airport also offers charter traffic with VING to the most popular holiday destinations within the Mediterranean. During the summer there are also incoming charter flights with tourists from Germany.
Freight flights occur at night time all year round. Brussels, Karlsruhe, Oslo, Esbjerg and Helsinki together bind Jönköping as a hub. Operators in this business are Fedex, DanX and Time: matters.

We work actively with airlines, tour operators and partners to develop business and traffic with both passengers and cargo. Due to the unique location in southern Sweden and the good catchment area, there is a great potential to develop Jönköping Airport into an important and socio-economically profitable business.
Our History
The airport, formerly known as Axamo, was inaugurated on September 3, 1961, and has since played a vital role in Jönköping’s development. The airport experienced strong growth throughout the 1970s and 1980s, with many passenger records dating back to that era. A new terminal was inaugurated in 1991; while originally built to handle a capacity of up to 750,000 passengers per year, changes in security regulations mean the terminal is now rated for approximately 300,000 passengers annually. The runway measures 2,203 meters in length and 45 meters in width.
A breakthrough in air freight occurred in 2006, and air cargo operations have since become a crucial part of the airport's business. Another key milestone in the airport's history was 2010, when Jönköping Municipality took over ownership from LFV. Major investments were made between 2018 and 2020. The runway system was upgraded to meet "Code E" certification standards, which included constructing new turning pads at both ends of the runway and widening curves on the taxiways. Thanks to these upgrades, Jönköping Airport can now accommodate aircraft models as large as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330. Further investments included a new fuel depot and a new operations area, featuring a new garage for many of our vehicles. In 2022, Region Jönköping County became a 50% co-owner of the airport. Today, approximately 50 people work directly for Jönköping Airport, though around a hundred people in total have the airport as their daily workplace.
In addition to commercial air traffic, Jönköping Airport fulfills an important role for society. It regularly handles flights such as air ambulances, aerial firefighting aircraft, police aircraft, and military transports. The airport has been nominated to become one of Sweden’s designated emergency preparedness airports and has served as a temporary emergency preparedness airport since December 2020. Jönköping Airport is also already one of the country’s five designated quarantine airports.
