The sun takes better than you think

As part of making Jönköping Airport a green airport, Jönköping Energi is now installing solar cells on the roof of the terminal hall. Producing electricity using solar cells has become both easier and cheaper in recent years. It is a profitable business both financially and sustainably.
In October, the solar cells at the airport begin to produce electricity and the estimated annual production is just over 200,000 kWh, which corresponds to the annual consumption of 14 normal-sized villas. The electricity produced at the airport will mostly be used directly by the airport, but on occasions when the production exceeds the airport's needs, the excess electricity is sold on.
-The solar cell installation is part of the work that takes place together with our customers to strengthen their work towards a more sustainable business, says Markus Carpvik, head of corporate marketing at Jönköping Energi.
Solar cells a step towards a green airport
Jönköping Airport works systematically to reduce its climate impact. Since before, energy efficiency improvements have been carried out, i.a. all vehicles at the airport run on renewable fuel, electric car charging for visitors has been installed, investment in innovation around aircraft heating and ground heating.
-We are working hard towards becoming a greener airport and the solar cells together with previous investments take us towards our goal of a greener airport, says Rony Forsberg, CEO at Jönköping Airport.
The sun takes better than you think
Many of the airport's travelers have their sights set on warmer latitudes through all charter departures.
-It's fun to see the passengers' positive reactions when we inform them about our investment in solar cells and that the sun can also provide energy at home in Jönköping, says Per Eliasson, Property Manager at Jönköping Airport.
Electricity from the sun easier than you think
As a supplier and partner, Jönköping Energi has been involved from the start to the fully completed solar cell plant.
-As a supplier, we take care of the customer's entire needs, everything from planning, permits and finally installation. But even when the plant is ready, we are at hand and can handle the management of electricity certificates and buy any excess electricity produced, says Markus Carpvik.
Facts about the facility at Jönköping Airport:
A total of 789 solar cell panels of the polycrystalline type
Installed power 213 kW
Estimated annual production 206,500 kWh/year
